A few facts about British Royal Wedding; and some other "trivia".

A joyous hour has arrived. British Royal Wedding at the Westminster Abby between prince William and Kate Middleton <--(lol - a commoner). As hundreds of millions of people all around the world tune in to watch the event, I myself decide to publish few estimates - in order to put things in sort of a real world perspective.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding is costing an estimated $34 million.

More than 1.2 billion people, that is one in every five on Earth, survive on less than $1 a day.
In total, 2.7 billion struggle to survive on less than two dollars per day.

Kate Middleton's engagement ring is the same ring that Diana, Princess of Wales, wore in 1981.
It cost £30,000 at the time and is made from 14 diamonds encircling a sapphire.

Diamond fueled wars have killed over 4 million people, destroyed countries, and displaced millions more.
Blood diamonds are not a problem of the past; blood diamonds from West Africa are currently reaching international markets. The UN recently reported $23 million in blood diamonds from the Ivory Coast are being smuggled into international diamond markets.
Diamonds have fueled the conflict in the Congo (DRC), the bloodiest war since WWII. Armed violence and human rights abuses continue over control of diamonds mines in eastern Congo. As the brutal conflict in Sierra Leone shows, even a small amount of conflict diamonds can wreak enormous havoc in a country.

Kate Middleton's wedding gown costs $434,000.

More than 2,2 million people die each year from diseases caused by polluted water. It costs just about 5000$ to donate a fully functional and long lasting water well for an African village through thewaterproject.org. Each well can then serve approx 500 people a day for dozens of years. Kate's gown that she will wear for just couple of hours is worth 86 life saving water wells.

British people are projected to spend £163million on Wills and Kate souvenirs like painted china and coffee mugs.

The GDP -Gross Domestic Product- of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people), is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined. 1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).

●▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬●
($60 million) just last year the Royal Family harvested in taxes from the UK tax payers. British Royal Family's net worth is impossible to calculate due to it's vast spread. Some estimate that the total sum is close to a trillion dollars.

Every seven seconds one child under the age of five will die from causes related to hunger in the world.

And this post was supposed to be all about them. :(

  3. Really interesting article; it makes you put things in perspective, with regards to what else can be done with the money we spend so frivolously. But, with that being said; if we were to spend all our money on helping other people, then what's the point in working at all? The world is just an unfair place, I suppose :/
